Care Package
We are updating our adoption package by giving a care package to go along with any new baby placed
Kittens are placed at minimum 12 weeks to 16 weeks depending on the following factors:
how soon kitten takes to eating solid food on his/her own
the size of the kitten, especially in the case of silver/golden persians who are normally much smaller then their solid or exotic counterparts at the same age
and whether kitten is to be picked up, or shipped
Our care package includes the following :
a "birth certificate"
pedigree
PKD DNA test results of the parents or full set of grandparents
CFA blue slip (for pet kittens, only when proof of spay/neuter is provided)
kitten health record
kitten care instructions
sample of kitten food
a gift hamper which we try to colour co-ordinate for boys or girls
Samples of gifts in hamper may include food bowl, kitty toys, flannel blankie, kitty scrapbook, soft toy etc

Our kittens are given Bivalent Intranasal Vaccine at 4 weeks, then Fort Dodge Killed 3 Way vaccine at 8 weeks
At 12 weeks, they are given another shot and a vet check
Vet check is performed by our main veterinarian who we have been with for the last 10 years
Dr Clare Maine
Rockwood Veterinary Clinic
Rockwood

On occasion we have used other vets as back ups. Especially  during the time when kittens are ready to leave,  and our vet is away, we have used other vets. However all our cats are cared for by our primary vet Dr Maine or when she is not available, then another vet at her clinic. Cattery inspection is also by our primary vet.

Kittens are also given a deworming using Strongid T
Our Kittens are fed on a diet of Royal Canin Babycat mixed with Iams Kitten and Nutro kitten in saucers of goats milk when they first started eating
They are also fed on a diet of raw human grade chicken breast meat Lately we have added raw human grade beef to the kitties diet.

When they are old enough to eat solid kibble, kittens are fed Nutro kitten kibble mixed with Iams Kitten and Kirkland's Cat Maintenance.
At 6 months of age, we begin to add in Nutro adult into the mix and by 10 months, kittens are on a diet of Nutro adult (indoor cat) mixed with Kirkland Cat Maintenance.
We have recently switched to Kirkland's Cat Maintenance , housebrand from Costco and are very pleased with both its performance as well as its cost. Our cats have tested it and liked it.

Nutro is available at Pet Smart and Pet Valu
Kirkland's Cat Maintenance is available at Costco.
We are impressed with the ingredients listed in Kirkland's Cat Maintenance:
Chicken, chicken meal, whole grain brown rice, ground white rice, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), natural chicken flavour etc

It compares favourably with Nutro Adult cat which we continue to use
Ingredients:
Chicken Meal, Ground Rice, Corn Gluten meal, Rice flour, Poultry fat etc.
